Model Schools Services 2009-10

Quality, customized, in district professional development
Model Schools program specialists work with teachers, administrators and support staff district technology initiatives, workshops and in service courses. Costs for this service are eligible for BOCES aid.  In 2008-09 our staff delivered over 500 days of in district work to our component districts.  All program specialists are NYS certified teachers with many years of experience integrating technology into classroom curriculum.

Professional development workshops, conferences and meetings
The Model Schools program offer regional workshops in our computer lab at Wheatley Heights. All workshops are listed on our website http://www.wsboces.org/instructionsupport/#pdf . We also host bi-monthly meetings for district administrators and technology coordinators. Please register for workshops and meetings at http://www.wsboces.org/webreg.

Lunch and Learns
To keep districts informed about new technologies, we host “lunch and learn” sessions. All interested educators are invited to attend these free 2 hour events.

Substitute and stipend reimbursement
After school in-service courses facilitated by district teachers are eligible for BOCES aid. Member districts can also receive aid on substitute teacher expenses for teacher attendance at regional workshops and conferences.

Videoconferencing opportunities
Contact Karen Schmid (kschmid@wsboces.org ) to learn how your district can participate in desktop, ISDN, and IP videoconferencing sessions with educational content providers.

Technology Integration Awards and Administrator Award
Each year our Model Schools program offers teachers the opportunity to apply for $1000 mini grants by sending in a lesson/unit incorporating student use of instructional technology. Please review the guidelines for submissions.The deadline to apply for the 2009-10 school year is March 8, 2010.

Each year we also honor one local administrator for leadership and support of district instructional technology initiatives. Please review this application and submit your nomination by March 12, 2010

Teacher Integration Awards 2009-10

Congratulations to five teachers from of our component districts that were selected for the 2008-09 Model Schools technology integration awards. Each award entitles a teacher to $1000 in classroom technology.

The teachers listed below will behonored June 2, 2010. District technology coordinators and curriculum directors were invited to this celebration where the teachers shared information about their lessons/units of study.
